Alexandria City Development Strategy (with LED Pillar)

Hi,

I'm Ahmed Eiweida.  Take a look at Alexandria CDS, with important works on LED (SWOT, Competitiveness, BEE at the local level, Toursim & CH, PPP in managing Indutrial Zones, and others).

Alexandria has been involved in a City Development Strategy (CDS) since 2004. The process has involved many stakeholders including civil society organizations, the private sector, academics and elected officials. The process of starting a CDS has led to a number of new projects that provide economic benefits while focusing on environmental improvement and slum upgrading. By engaging stakeholders from business and community groups, the local government has been able to not only start a medium-to-long term action plan to improve the quality of life for all citizens, but also ensure that Alexandria moves towards a more sustainable development.

This is an example of a well

This is an example of a well researched and prepared strategy to address pressing economic, social and environmental issues in this major city in Egypt. LEDNA members will benefit from seeing how the local economy assessment was translated into specific pillars to address the needs as identified in the assessment. The resulting plan addresses all of LEDNA's thematic areas. We will look forward to seeing how the strategy is implemented, a project between national and local governments in Egypt, the World Bank and other parterns. Thank you Ahmed for sharing and I hope you and your World Bank colleagues and partners find our knowledge resource and social network useful.
