Training courses on Local Economic Development and Public Service Delivery

This fall The Hague Academy for Local Governance organises two two-week training courses about strengthening local economic growth and local public services. They are designed for professionals working in the field of local governance, public service provision, public sector reform and economic development.

The training course Local Economic Development will take place from 10 to 21 September 2012 and is about strengthening the economic capacity of a regional community in such a way that it makes optimal use of the potential and characteristics of the area. It discusses strategies, tools and approaches to improve conditions for economic growth and job creation, together with citizens, businesses and NGOs. Attention will be paid to the role of local authorities in increasing food security and securing local interests vis-a-vis central government, multinationals and foreign investors. The training course Local Service Delivery and MDG’s takes place from 15 to 26 October 2012 and discusses the role of local governments in delivering basic services to citizens. Questions that will be discussed are: How can services reach the poorest people, and thus contribute to development goals? How to design and control a clear divison of tasks and responsibilities between central and local authorities in the different sectors? How can the financial management of services be set up in a transparent way? And how can public private partnerships improve the delivery of services?
