New Look Website

I just need to say that I love the new-look website. It is fresh, a lot of white spaces and a lot easier on the eye. The feeling that everything is crowded into a small space is gone. Understood the thinking behind the original design, but this is so much breezier (is the word that comes to mind).  The content as always is still excellent. Congratulations on your 700th member. Now let's get to the 1000th member. Great job guys.

Entrepreneurial journeys: A magical recipe for potential entrepreneurs!

The idea of creating your own business has always haunted you? The fear of uncertainty keeps you paralysed? Or obstacles have so far forced you to postpone or even abandon your dream?

If yes, there is certainly no better recipe for motivation than reading stories of entrepreneurs whose determination to move forward despite the odds has led to success. Here's the magical recipe:-)!

Local economic development and the MDGS- request for reports and views

I am preparing a public domain report on justifying undertaking LED in relation to the MDGs. I know there has been some work on it, but need to ask the community to pull together and share with me any reports and perspectives on how you see LED contributing to MDGS, which ones, how and how to measure etc. All inputs welcome.

Understanding your local economy

This is an excellent Cities Alliance resource showing the results of a comparative study we did for 15 cities across the world. It includes a practical toolkit. It compares tools and methods used in cities in developing, transition and more advanced economies. It can be downloaded in sections. A superb resource in my opinion.

Requesting resources on city benchmarking for African cities

Dear LEDNA members,

I am currently working with the World Bank in Ethiopia and the Addis Ababa City Government on a benchmarking exercise for the city towards improving its competitiveness and economic growth prospects.

I would be very interested to hear from any of you who have conducted similar excercises for your cities and have any documents / experiences to share.

If anyone can share other African city benchmarking exercises or city specific sources of data in Africa that would be great.
