4th African Microfinance Conference, Burkina Faso

The organizing committee of the 4th African Microfinance Conference is pleased to inform you that this will be held in Ouagadougou / Burkina Faso from 7th to 10th of July 2009 at the Ouaga 2000 Conference center. The main topic of the 4th AMC will be: “Affordable access to finance for low-income African entrepreneurs”

The sub-themes to be discussed during the conference are the fallowing:

1.     Transaction costs revisited-towards an efficient transactional platform to engage with poor and low-income clients

2.     Enabling legislation

3.     Microfinance and food security

4.     Inclusion challenges in Africa

5.     Collateral Management in Agricultural and Rural Finance in Africa

This important conference will to bring together about 600 participants coming from central banks, banks, IMF, Governmental representatives, researchers and beneficiaries of the financial services.

The conference theme and sub-themes will provide a platform for discussing the key aspects of the provision of inclusive financial services to African entrepreneurs.  There will the plenary sessions, panels and group discussions. The conference languages will be French and English with simultaneous translation.

All Microfinance Practitioners, central bankers, researchers and Governmental authorities willing to share their experiences and widen the frontiers of Microfinance are most welcome at the 4th AMC in Ouagadougou.


Registration fees are the following:

-         us $ 500 for registration received up to the 15 of June 2009

-         us $ 650 for registration received after this date

You are therefore requested to register as soon as possible to benefit from lower registration fees. You can register on line www.apim-burkina.bf  or on www.microfinance.up.ac.za

You shall benefit from the following advantages:

o       A shuttle service from the airport to your chosen hotel;

o       Access to all conference rooms;

o       Two coffee breaks and a group lunch each day during the period of the conference;

o       Participation at the Welcome Cocktail and the Gala dinner;

o       Access to all exhibition activities;

o       The conference kit with all the information about the conference.


It is advised to make hotel reservation prior to your arrival. The organizers of the conference did negotiate favorable rates for all the participants. You can make your hotel reservation through the organizing committee even if you will send later the names of the room occupants. You are invited to select now your preferred hotel and send it to the organizers.


Shuttles will be available for the conference participants from the airport to the hotels and from the hotels the conference center.

The Organizing committee can also facilitate car rentals if they are needed.


All participants are requested to travel with valid passports and the necessary entry visa for Burkina Faso as well as for all the transit countries (in case you have to transit).  In case you don’t have a Burkina Faso embassy in the country of your residence, you can ask for an invitation letter and you will be given an entry visa at the Ouagadougou International Airport (in this case, bring with you two passport size photos and US dollar 20).

You are also advised to enquire about health requirements in Burkina Faso and in all the transit countries.

Please remember to protect yourself against diseases such as yellow fever innoculation and keep your certificate with you.
