Theme: "Mobilizing Social Dialogue for the Implementation of the Global Jobs Pact in Africa"
The ILO Regional Office for Africa will be organizing the Second Social Partners Forum in Africa in order to discuss how the social partners, social dialogue and tripartism can be better mobilized to counter the effects of the current global financial, economic and social crisis on African economies and societies. The meeting will be attended by workers and employers representatives from all African ILO member states, and by twenty selected civil society organizations who will join the forum as observers. The Forum is expected to adopt a Declaration that will be submitted to the First Decent Work Symposium in Africa (Ougadougou, 1-2 December 2009).
The First Social Partners Forum took place in Ouagadougou on 3-4 September 2004 under the title "Decent Work - a driving force for Africa's development". It preceded the African Union Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government on Employment and Poverty Reduction which was organized in Ouagadougou in September 2004.
